Power delay

The PDP say they are concerned at the apparent lack of progress in key infrastructural areas vital to Gibraltar’s economic and social well-being. The highest priority of these being the establishment of a reliable and more environmentally friendly power supply for Gibraltar and feel that the “honey moon period” enjoyed by the new Government should now be over.

All too frequently Gibraltar residents and local businesses have to suffer power cuts and the PDP understand the risk of a real collapse in Gibraltar’s power supply is all too real.

The GSD who were in government for 16 years never addressed or prioritised this issue in a timely manner, delaying this until the last year of office and preferring to concentrate on an expensive Airport terminal. However over 1/8 of the term of office the GSLP/Liberals has passed, the GSD project has been cancelled by them and they have still not announced what they intend to do instead. This means that any progress has been delayed and will further endanger the ailing power stations we currently depend on.

The PDP recognise that the GSLP/Liberal Government had a right, when being elected to review all GSD Government projects and evaluate then on a cost benefit basis. Nevertheless Gibraltar requires a modern, environmentally friendly and reliable supply and cannot afford the luxury of delay.
